Union County Coroner miffed by possible change to position

If any changes are coming to the role of county coroner, Dr. David Applegate said he would rather those changes deal with making the position better.

This comes after a provision was added to the House version of the state budget that would make county coroners an appointed position rather than an elected one.

Applegate, who has served as Union County’s coroner since 2000, said he sees both sides of the argument but would ultimately want to know what the change would do.

“Either way this goes, it’s just not much of a change,” he said. “I just don’t see how this is all that different.”
