NU’s Welch wins mat title; Lady Cats compete in Highland tournament

North Union’s Collin Welch earned an individual championship last Saturday as the Wildcats competed in the Jimmy Mac Tournament at Bellefontaine.

Welch wrestled in the 132-pound division and won two matches in the championship bracket.

He pinned Jeremiah Bettison of Wayne in 2:53 during the semifinal match and followed with a pin (2:52) over Ace Olmeda of Beavercreek in the championship bout.

Several wrestlers earned placements in the top eight of their bracket.

Mason Andrews was fourth at 175, Cory Gillium was fifth at 157, Jaystin Beeney was sixth at 120, Luke Brown was sixth at 157. Broden O’Reilly was sixth at 175 and Jack Kemp was seventh at 138. As a team, North Union finis…
