Union County interest earnings likely to pass $5M, set new record

Union County’s interest income could hit another record at the end of the year despite a likely dip in quarterly earnings starting in the fourth quarter.

Treasurer Andrew Smarra told the commissioners during the investment advisory committee meeting Nov. 6 that the county’s portfolio would likely climb above $5 million total for the year.

“A large portion of our investments are in things that are not going to be that initially impacted by it,” he said. “We’ll probably end the year somewhere around $5.3-$5.5 million of interest income generated.”
