100 YEARS AGO AUGUST 24, 1923

Marion post-office officials received an announcement this morning from Philadelphia that they will receive an allotment of the special stamps which are to be issued with a profile likeness o the late President Harding, says the Marion Star. These will go on sale in Marion. The stamps are to be printed in black and will bear the numbers “1865” and “1923” the date of death and birth of the president. The first issue of the stamps will be 300,000 and will supersede the regular two-cent stamp for sixty days. IF possible these stamps will be sold only from the Marion post office, but if the demand justifies other post offices will be supplied at a later date. …
