Sheriff travels to D.C. for border security talks

Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton spent Wednesday and Thursday in Washington D.C. attending the White House Briefing on Secure Borders and Safe Communities.
Patton said the conference addressed concerns, much larger than just immigration and concerns at the border.

Tire collection announced to help eliminate mosquitoes

The Union County Health Department is hosting two free tire collection days in October. The first collection is Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Union County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A second collection event for county residents will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Richwood Fairgrounds.

Studies show that in the past, people had approximately 17 minutes to escape a typical home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Now they may have as little as two minutes to get out safely.

Recent financial audits of the following entities by Auditor of State Keith Faber have returned a clean audit reports. Their record keeping has qualified them for the Auditor of State Award with Distinction.

County offers drive-thru flu shot service

The Union County Health Department is offering drive-thru flu shots on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Union County Fairgrounds. The drive-thru clinic is a test of the Union County Health Department’s emergency response plans.

Man responsible for fatal crash is sentenced

The man responsible for a crash that killed his teenage cousin and injured his brother and several others will spend the next four and a half years in prison.
Christopher Conrad, 20, of 24660 state Route 4, Richwood, was sentenced Wednesday to 54 months in prison.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood or platelets to provide hope and healing to patients fighting cancer.

Richwood to collect tires, prevent mosquito diseases

The Richwood fair board is working with the Union County Health Department to reduce the mosquito population by hosting a tire collection at the local fair grounds, 1 Gill Street in Richwood. The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon or until the collection trucks are full.

Union County Officials to take drugs off the streets

The Union County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Richwood Police, Plain City Police, Memorial Hospital, Union County Drug-Free Coalition, and other local agencies, are trying to provide area residents an opportunity to properly dispose of prescription medicines.

Funds aim to boost student wellness
