The voters have spoken and the Union County board of Elections has released the decisions of the people from the Tuesday, Nov. 5 election.

United Way volunteers have convened to evaluate grant applications from the organization’s 25 local partner agencies.

NU qualifies for state robotics competition

North Union High School robotics teams hosted the season opener for the state of Ohio on Saturday, October 26th, hosting 34 high school teams from all over the state. This year’s new VEX game, “Tower Takeover,” is where teams must strategically stack colored cubes in goal zones to score as many points as possible, as well as adding more cubes to “towers” to increase the stack scores.

Healthy donors needed for bloodmobile drive

The last American Red Cross Bloodmobile drive of 2019 will be held on Monday, Nov. 11. Due to a conflict of scheduling, donors are to note that the drive will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Richwood, located at 18 S. Fulton Street. The event will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. 

North Union Agronomy team wins Nationals

Winners of the National FFA Agronomy Career Development Event (CDE) were announced Friday at the annual awards banquet. The event was held in conjunction with the 92nd National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis.

Veterans to be celebrated Monday

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 870 and American Legion Post 40 invite local veterans and their guest to the “Veterans Day” no cost brunch on Monday, Nov. 11. The meal will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. Scrambled eggs, sausage/gravy, sausage patties, fried potatoes and coffee will be available.

Elementary students to honor our veterans

North Union Elementary School students are preparing to pay tribute to community heroes during their annual Veterans Day celebration. 
The event will be held on Monday, November 11, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the elementary school, located at 420 Grove Street, Richwood.

Richwood resident competes, wins Forged in Fire contest

Richwood area resident Justin Chenault has been forging and designing knives for 14 years. One particular creation won him a championship and $10,000.

Operation Christmas Child sends shoeboxes worldwide

Imagine the joy of a child living on the other side of the world when they open up a shoebox gift for Christmas?
Thousands of volunteers inspect and prepare donated shoeboxes for international shipping. The shoebox ministry also shares the Gospel, bringing parents, siblings and friends to accept Christ and become active members in local churches.

The Union County Drug-Free Coalition has announced that the recent DEA Drug Take Back Day held on Saturday, Oct. 26, was a big success yielding over 100 pounds of unwanted and expired medications.

Health Department ready for flu season

The flu season is upon us and everyone should consider receiving a flu shot.
Nurses from the Union County Health Department will be on hand Thursday, Nov. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Northern Union County Fire Department, located at 602 N. Franklin Street in Richwood. Appointments are required by calling 937-645-2052. Flu Shots are free with most insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid.

FFA student earns accolades at convention
