Scouts earn sub-zero award
Members of the Richwood Boy Scout Troop 440 had a rare opportunity to earn a special scout award. The event took place on Sunday, Feb. 15, when the troop organized a “sub-zero” campout. They camped on Hoskins Road from evening until dawn as the temperature reached minus 2 at 2 a.m. Sleeping for six or more hours in sub-zero temperatures requires careful planning and the proper gear. Those who earned the award are pictured left to right; Life scout Adam Brown, Star Scout Connor Brumfield, Second Class Scout Trevor Brumfield earned the polar bear award for three hours, Life Scout Carl Calvin earned the sub zero award as did Scout Leader Reddy Brown. Also supporting the campers (not pictured) was Scout Leader Michelle Brown.
