Council hears from the commissioners of NU baseball for youths

Commissioner Rich Crabtree and Assistant Commissioner of North Union
Baseball for Youth Doug Patton approached council regarding ways to
improve the ball diamond on Grove St. when they met in regular session
on Monday, March 24.
NU District schedules make-up days
Many Ohioans will always remember this past winter season which included
an ice storm in February, that downed power lines and trees, followed a
few days later by The Blizzard of 2008, which produced nearly 20 inches
of blowing snow. Union County was placed under a Level Three Snow
Emergency and students in the North Union District and around the state
got several days off from school.
School district to host seminar
North Union School District is working to prepare students for the 21st
century. Knowing that the local businesses and community play a large
part in a student's education, school officials are inviting members of
the community to attend a free workshop Friday, April 11.
NUHS students will need to dress warmly for class
Due to the current renovation work at the North Union High School,
Superintendent Rick Smith has announced that the heat at that facility
will be turned off while students are on spring break and will remain
off. Students should prepare to dress warmly when they come back to
class on Monday, March 31.
School board accepts the bids for the middle school building project

Kevin Wise of Regency Construction Services, presented board members
with drafted copies of contracts for the North Union Middle School
Building Project when they met Monday, March 17.
Richwood Post Office to host Passport Fair

Representatives of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will be on hand
Saturday, April 5 at the Richwood Post Office, 12 E. Ottawa St., to
offer customers passport assistance. The Passport Fair will run from 9
to 11 a.m.
Tremmel resigns from UCHD

Union County Health Commissioner Martin J. Tremmel, RS, MPA, JD has
accepted an invitation by State Director of Health Dr. Alvin Jackson to
serve as the Assistant Director for the Ohio Department of Health.
Mayor releases list of committees/members
Mayor Bill Nibert has released a list of Village of Richwood committees
and the names of those serving/chairing each group.
Flag retirement ceremony planned
Members of the American Legion Post 40 and VFW Post 870 are planning a
flag retirement ceremony to be held on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14. The
event will take place at the North Union District Veterans Memorial, on
Veterans Way. A time for the ceremony will be announced at a later date.
According to protocol, the flags will be burned.
Union County Chamber of Commerce recognizes area businesses/leaders

The Union County Chamber of Commerce (UCCC) recognized three local
businesses at its Annual Dinner Meeting held Saturday, March 1, at Made
From Scratch, in Plain City. There were over 400 people in attendance.
Village Administrater praises employees for snow removal

Village Administrator Lin Hensley commended village employees for their
diligence and dedication in getting the mounds of snow removed from
village streets when council met in regular session on Monday, March 10.
Postmaster asks for residents' help
At this time of year, Richwood Postmaster, Helen Gregory asks residents
to assist in keeping letter carriers safe during the winter season.
Slips, trips and falls cause serious injuries and increase dramatically
when sidewalks, walkways and stairs are covered with snow or ice. Letter
carriers are instructed to hold mail to addresses where ice and snow are
not cleared; however, many risk their safety in order to provide service
to the customers.
County sales tax issue approved
Voters nix North Union levy
Union County voters turned out in droves to cast their ballots at the
Presidential Primary Election, held Tuesday, March 4. According to
election results, 15,822 people voted, resulting in a 51.73 percent
turnout in Union County.
Union County declares March as Red Cross Month

Continuing a 65-year tradition first championed by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt in 1943, and each sitting U.S. president since, President
George W. Bush has proclaimed March 2008 as national Red Cross Month,
recognizing the organization's efforts to help save lives. The Union
County Commissioners have done there part to support the Union County
Chapter by signing a proclamation to declare March as Union County Red
Area churches need to submit Holy-Week news
The Richwood Gazette will be publishing information from area churches
regarding Holy-Week services (Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday).
Information needs to be submitted no later than Monday, March 10 at 12
